Two Weeks of Summer Left — Soak It In on Kauai

Hawaii schools are back August 3. Here's how to make the last stretch of summer count.

Two Weeks of Summer Left — Soak It In on Kauai

Summer's almost pau. Hawaii public schools are back in session Monday, August 3, which means there are just a couple weeks of long beach days and slow afternoons left before backpacks and bell schedules take over. So let's make them count.

Here's your Kauai summer send-off list.

Get in the water — safely

Nothing says summer like a beach day. Pick a spot with a lifeguard, check in with them first, and remember: when in doubt, don't go out. Here are Kauai's beaches with lifeguards.

Catch a festival

You're in luck — Koloa Plantation Days is happening right now through July 26, with the Grand Parade on Saturday the 25th. It's one of the island's best celebrations and a perfect summer outing. Here's everything to know.

Eat your way around the island

Long summer days were made for shave ice, food trucks, and fresh poke. Work your way through our guide to where to eat on Kauai — grab an ahi wrap on the North Shore, chase down a gyro in Hanalei, and don't skip dessert.

Chase one more sunset

Some of the best sunsets of the year happen right now. Find the sunniest side of the island, grab a plate to go, and post up somewhere with a view. (The Kauai Today app shows you where it's clear and when the sun sets — handy for timing it just right.)

Slow down

Sleep in. Take the long way home. Say yes to the beach one more time. School will be here soon enough — for now, there's still summer to soak in.
